The 116th Air Control Wing launched an official Facebook page Friday allowing unit members, families and the community to ask questions about wing operations and share ideas and feedback about hot topics.

"My hope is the Facebook venue will help our Georgia Air National Guard Airmen tell our 116th ACW story," said Col. Kevin Clotfelter, 116 ACW commander.

Facebook provides an instantaneous way for people across the globe to communicate. In a sampling of 130 wing members, approximately 70 percent have an active personal Facebook page and about 10 percent use Twitter.

Identifying the creator of the page can be difficult.

"There are Facebook pages online resembling official pages, but an official 116th social media presence hasn't existed for several years," said Capt. Pam Stauffer, 116th Public Affairs officer. "The page must be approved by wing leadership and be registered through the Air Force Public Affairs Agency as an official government page."

The wing's system of internal controls will use content management to encourage a free flow of ideas while maintaining the security necessary to protect the mission.

The public can access the wing Facebook site through a Facebook search for the 116th Air Control Wing-Georgia Air National Guard
