  • Georgia Air Guardsmen earn top honors for engineering installation awards

    Three Guardsmen from the Georgia Air National Guard’s 202d Engineering Installation Squadron, were recently selected as the best of the best out of all 16 Air Force engineering installation squadrons. Senior Master Sgt. Mark Buchanan was chosen as the Base Level Cyberspace Systems Integrator of the Year, Senior Master Sgt. Andrew Jones was selected as the Senior Support Member of the Year, and Tech. Sgt. Antonio Qualls was chosen as the Installer of the Year. Additionally, 202d EIS personnel placed second in five of the remaining six categories.
  • Team JSTARS to receive first female wing commander in Georgia Air National Guard history

    The Georgia Air National Guard’s 116th Air Control Wing vice wing commander will take command Jan. 12, 2020, earning her the recognition as first female wing commander in the history of the Georgia Air National Guard. Col. Amy Holbeck will take the reins from Col. Ato Crumbly, the current commander of the 116th Air Control Wing, in a change-of-command ceremony to be held at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, Ga, giving her responsibility for more than 1,450 Airmen. “Col. Holbeck is a combat tested aviator who exemplifies United States Air Force Core Values. She has a proven leadership and command track record,” said Brig. Gen. Thomas Grabowski, Georgia Air National Guard commander.
  • Mercer University students help Team JSTARS with innovative approach to scheduling frustrations

    Team JSTARS, the sole operators of the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System, recently teamed up with Mercer University’s computer science department in Macon to advance an antiquated software system during the fall 2019 semester. The vision for the project is to make the multiple databases the unit uses for scheduling missions and flying operations a seamless system, and aggregate 15 years of scheduling data to analyze for improvements, according to Lt. Col. Vanessa Cox, the chief of scheduling with the Georgia Air National Guard’s 116th Operations Support Squadron.

  • Team JSTARS maintainers design tool saving Air Force estimated $500k yearly

    Eight Airmen from Team JSTARS at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, recently designed an innovative tool estimated to save the Air Force nearly $500k a year in cowling repairs for the E-8C Joint STARS aircraft. The cowling fixture table, an approved tool intended for field-level repairs, was a response to a challenge set by leadership. “The supply system could not meet the demand requirements for these cowlings,” said Col. Robert Nash, commander of the 116th Maintenance Group, Georgia Air National Guard. “We needed a sufficient capacity to support the warfighter.”
